Your Excellency, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi;
Distinguished Leaders;
Distinguished Delegates;
Excellencies,
Allow me to once again thank Prime Minister Modi and the Government of India for the excellent organization of this summit, the warm hospitality extended to all of us. Last night’s gala dinner was a wonderful reflection of that hospitality.
This morning we came together around four important ideas: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. But these four ideas must serve one purpose: to build economies that are stronger, fairer and able to deliver prosperity for our people. Our resilience must be delivered for our people. And to deliver for our people, we must be able to turn our vulnerabilities into opportunities, our weakness into strength.
Indonesia knows this reality very well. We are an archipelagic nation, seated in the most active ring of fire. We live daily with rising sea levels, extreme weather, active volcanoes. Yet, our lands and our seas also hold much of what the future will be built upon. Critical minerals, rare earth, renewable resources for clean technology and high technology, and the forests that breathe for the world.
The same is true across BRICS. Together, we hold a significant share of the world’s critical minerals and energy resources. We possess everything on which the green century will be built. That is why when disaster strikes, we must see this as more than a disaster. We must see the close connection between climate change resilience and national development.
Indonesia is not alone in facing this challenge. Other BRICS members and many in the Global South face similar intertwined issues. But when we address these challenges collectively, we also bring together an enormous pool of resources, productive capacity, technological capabilities, and markets. Put them together, and BRICS can make a real and vital difference for the world.
Therefore, the first step is to recognize the value of what we have and use this strength to help one another. Together, we can turn these interconnected challenges into opportunities for greater investment, for stronger industries, and for more jobs, and better opportunities for our people. Growth that reaches millions of our people will make our nations more resilient. It can only be achieved when development is inclusive. And, when combined with innovation, our collective strengths can become a powerful force, turning scarcity into capacity.
Indonesia for many years, was the biggest importer of grain, of rice, and of maize. Now, we are an exporter and we will be able to increase the support for the entire world. It can make the green economy an opportunity and strengthen opposition in global value chains.
BRICS is already a supply chain. Our task is to connect and optimize it, so this existing strength can become a source of greater value for all of us. Therefore, let me offer something concrete. Let us industrialize together, and let us optimize the resources and capacities that we hold together.
Excellencies,
In four years, we will reach 2030, the target year of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. We agreed on the Sustainable Development Goals. We made clear commitments to lift our people out of poverty, to protect our planet, to build stronger institutions. This commitment stands. We must continue beyond 2030.
The 2030 Agenda was never simply about reaching a deadline. It was about bringing development countries closer to where they rightfully belong, to deliver peace and prosperity for our peoples, and to give developing countries a greater role in shaping global order. It is therefore only logical that the voice of the Global South must be heard, not only in accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, but also in shaping what comes after it.
BRICS can bring together the voices of the Global South, amplify them as we shape the future. A future where resilience protects development, where innovation expands opportunity, where cooperation produces concrete results, and where sustainability means that prosperity must be delivered for today and for future generations.
Thank you.
